Batteries

UPS, inverters, and solar systems depend on batteries as their primary source of stored energy, ensuring consistent power during outages or fluctuations. Batteries store electricity for later use, allowing these systems to provide reliable backup power and maintain functionality when it’s needed most.

Selecting the right battery is essential for achieving optimal performance and cost efficiency. At Alpha Power, our experienced team provides expert guidance to help you choose the best battery solution for your unique needs. We also offer comprehensive services, including regular maintenance, performance testing, and safe battery disposal, ensuring reliability during load shedding and power outages across the country. From installation to ongoing support, Alpha Power is with you every step of the way.

Common battery types used in these systems include:

  • Semi-sealed Lead Calcium Battery: Fully recyclable with an anticipated lifespan of 4 to 5 years.
  • Valve-Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) Battery: A popular choice for backup power, with a lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Available in absorbent glass mat (AGM) and GEL cell varieties.
  • SodiumIon Battery: Sodium-ion batteries are significantly less prone to overheating, making them safer in high-temperature conditions. They can operate in a wide temperature range of -40°C to 80°C, over 40% greater than lead-acid or lithium counterparts. These units provide a longer battery life and require less maintenance, reducing overall operational costs. Sodium-ion UPS batteries deliver up to 2,000 cycles at 100% Depth of Discharge (DOD), matching LiFePO4 performance and lasting five times longer than Lead Acid (VRLA) options. Sodium-ion UPS units are a more sustainable choice, as they are easier to recycle compared to lithium-based systems. Sodium-ion UPS units fully recharge within just one hour, over 50% faster than lithium-ion systems.
  • Vented Lead Acid (Flooded or Wet Cell) Battery: Known for its reliability, with a lifespan of up to 20 years.
  • Lithium-ion Battery: A premium option offering a lifespan of 15 to 20 years.
